Our Process

1

Site Walk

We meet on site, review plans or sketch requirements, and identify access, utilities, and any site-specific challenges.

2

Locate & Mark

Call 811 to locate buried utilities before any ground is broken. We work around existing services safely.

3

Clearing

Vegetation, trees, or existing structures removed and debris hauled away or stockpiled per your direction.

4

Excavation

Grading, trenching, or foundation digging completed to plan dimensions and elevations.

5

Material Handling

Spoils hauled off site or redistributed as fill. Imported material placed and compacted as needed.

6

Final Grade

Site finished to grade, drainage slopes confirmed, and area cleaned up and ready for the next trade.

Built for North Dakota Conditions

Working in Central ND means dealing with conditions that other regions don't face the same way: deep frost lines (4+ feet), expansive clay soils that shift with freeze-thaw cycles, and spring conditions where ground can go from frozen solid to saturated in a short window. We understand how to time earthwork, handle clay subgrade, and set foundations that perform long-term in this climate.

We have direct knowledge of site conditions across McLean, Burleigh, Morton, Oliver, and Mercer Counties — soil types, drainage patterns, and what local building departments typically require for site preparation.

Pricing

Excavation costs vary significantly based on project scope, soil conditions, site access, haul distance, and time of year. A simple utility trench is priced differently than a full basement dig with spoil hauling and finish grading. Rather than publish rates that won't apply to your specific situation, we prefer to talk through what you're working on and give you a straight estimate. Call or text us at 701-773-DIRT (3478) and we'll get you a number that actually reflects your project.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size projects do you take on?

We work on everything from single residential foundation digs to larger agricultural site clearing projects. As a focused one-machine operation, we're best suited for projects where detailed work and responsiveness matter more than raw scale.

Can you work from my builder's plans?

Yes. We work from engineered plans, sketches, or verbal descriptions depending on the project type. For foundation excavation, we prefer having a site plan with dimensions and elevations to work from.

Do you haul away excavated material?

Yes — we have our own end dump truck for hauling spoils. Material can be hauled off site, spread on your property as fill, or stockpiled, depending on your needs and soil quality.

When is the best time of year for excavation in North Dakota?

The primary excavation season runs May through October. Spring timing depends heavily on frost depth and soil conditions — we can often start earlier than people expect once the frost has broken and the ground can support equipment. Some work is done in winter but it adds complexity and cost.

Do you also work with builders and general contractors?

Yes. We subcontract for GCs and builders on a regular basis. We know how to coordinate with other trades and keep the job on schedule.
